Who We Are

About the Mr. Mack Lewis Foundation.

We are a Baltimore-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit rooted in the Church Square community of East Baltimore. Through boxing, food access, health programs, mentorship, and community outreach, we work every day to reduce violence, build resilience, and create opportunity for families who need it most.

Our Mission

Reduce violence. Build futures.

The Mr. Mack Lewis Foundation's promotion of social welfare, including operating an athletic facility for youths and adults in underprivileged and economically depressed neighborhoods, with the purpose of lessening neighborhood tensions, eliminating prejudice and discrimination, and combating community deterioration and juvenile delinquency.

Our Story

Built on the legacy of one man's belief.

Mr. Mack Lewis was a Baltimore boxer, trainer, and community anchor who spent decades teaching young people in East Baltimore that discipline, hard work, and self-belief could change their lives. He opened a boxing gym not just to train fighters — but to give at-risk youth a safe place to belong.

The Foundation was established to carry that vision forward. What began as a boxing program grew into a full-service community organization. Today we operate food distribution twice a week, run youth summer camps, provide free health screenings, coordinate academic tutoring with Johns Hopkins volunteers, and deliver holiday drives that support hundreds of Baltimore families.

The Church Square community of East Baltimore has faced decades of economic disinvestment and violence. The Foundation is part of the solution — not through charity, but through earned trust, consistent presence, and programming that meets real needs.

Community event at Mack Lewis Foundation - our story and legacy

Our work is guided by relationships. Gregory Wilkes, our Executive Director, has deep roots in this community and understands its needs from the inside. Every program we run was shaped by listening to the families we serve.

We have distributed over 500,000 pounds of food, served more than 580 individuals every month, placed over 100 youth in boxing and fitness programming, and given away more than 350 turkeys annually. Behind every number is a family that showed up when they needed help — and found it.

The Legacy of Mr. Mack Lewis is alive in every young person who laces up their gloves, every family that walks away with groceries, and every student who earns a scholarship. Read the full legacy →
